opPractice Connection Issues

Having difficulty getting connected to the opPractice? These are the most common fixes

1. Make sure the opPractice apps and/or VPN app are not getting blocked by your firewall or anti-virus app.

2. Make sure no other VPN is running on your computer, e.g. Proton VPN, Nord VPN, Mozilla VPN etc…

3. You can connect to VPN but opPractice won’t open:

Although it appears to be an opPractice issue, it is actually a corrupt VPN connection and/or IP conflict. To fix requires re-setting the VPN connection. There are seven levels of fixes you can try. We suggest trying (I), if this doesn’t work try (II), if that doesn’t work try (III) and so on.

 
(I). – Reconnect VPN
.
a. open SoftEther VPN app, right click on HUB connection, click on Disconnect
b. double click on HUB connection to re-connect
c. try re-opening opPractice

if this does not work then…
.

(II). – Re-start Computer
.
a. open SoftEther VPN app, right click on HUB connection, click on Disconnect
b. re-start computer
c. open VPN app and Double click on HUB connection to re-connect
d. try re-opening opPractice

if this does not work then…
.

(III). – Change VPN Advanced settings
.
a. open SoftEther VPN app, right click on HUB connection, click on Disconnect
b. right click on HUB connection, click on ‘Properties’
c. in the Properties window, click on [Advanced Settings]
d. change ‘Number of TCP Connections’ to 2
e. check the box for ‘Disable UDP Acceleration’
f. click on [OK]

if this does not work then…

(IV). – Restart Router
.
a. open SoftEther VPN app, right click on HUB connection, click on Disconnect
b. power off your internet router, wait 10 seconds, re-start router.
c. wait for internet to come back on and show as connected on your computer
d. open VPN app and Double click on HUB connection to re-connect
e. try re-opening opPractice

if this does not work then…

(V).  Try different Internet Connection
.
a. open SoftEther VPN app, right click on HUB connection, click on Disconnect
b. disconnect from your current WiFi and connect to an alternate WiFi (a good option is the hotspot on your phone)
c. wait for internet to come back on and show as connected on your computer
d. open VPN app and Double click on HUB connection to re-connect
e. try re-opening opPractice
f. If hub opens correctly then you should be able to repeat this process connecting to your regular WiFi
.
if this does not work then…
.
For steps VI and VII, make sure you have your VPN username and VPN password available before proceeding 
 
(VI). Delete and Re-Create VPN Adapter AND VPN Connection
Try re-creating the VPN connection. Make sure you have your VPN username and password ready before trying this last step
.
a. open SoftEther VPN app, right click on HUB connection, click on Delete
b. right click on VPN Client Adapter, click on Delete Virtual Network Adapter
c. re-create the VPN Adapter and VPN Connection following the instructions …  Here
d. re-connect to VPN
e. try re-opening opPractice
.
if this does not work then…

(VII). Uninstall and Reinstall VPN
.
As a last resort you can try Uninstalling and Re-installing SoftEther
a. open SoftEther VPN app, right click on HUB connection, click on Delete
b. right click on VPN Client Adapter, click on Delete Virtual Network Adapter

c. open the ‘Add/Remove Programs’ system window
d. scroll down to the SoftEther app
e. Click on Uninstall
f. Goto the SoftEther Download page and download then reinstall the latest version of SoftEther VPN Client
g. re-create the VPN connection following the instructions …  Here
h. re-connect to the VPN
i. try re-opening opPractice

* If you have tried all these and you still can not connect then either:
 
a) there is a server side issue – contact us to have us confirm there is no VPN server issue.
or
b) unfortunately you have an issue that will require IT assistance.
 
Your options therefore at this point are:
1. Change your computer
2. Do a factory reset of your computer then, after windows gets re-installed, re-install opPractice and SoftEther VPN (*back up your files first)

4. Hire a local IT Tech to take a look at your computer
